Supporting Ugandans in Need of Mobility Assistance

275 Seat Cushions to Uganda

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates there are about 70,000,000 disabled people in need of mobility assistance. Among them are a number of children in rural areas where standard wheelchairs are ineffective due to rough, unpaved terrain. As a result, Mobility Worldwide-West Michigan has designed a self-propelled cart that affords children dignity, inclusion and opportunities to interact with other kids (and go to school) that they otherwise wouldn’t have had.

This year, we had the privilege of manufacturing and donating 275 seat cushions for self-propelled carts to children in Uganda. On December 2, 2024, 18 volunteers helped load all those cushions into the container, packing it to the brim over the span of an hour and 45 minutes.

We are grateful to the volunteers who helped load the container in the snow and cold conditions, and to all the volunteers who had a hand in building, finishing and packing the carts. We are also grateful for the local business support and the support from all of our wonderful donors. Together, you all gave the kids in these communities the life-changing gift of mobility.

We would also like to extend our thanks to Hope Powers Africa for placing these carts with very deserving recipients.
